Venturi Healthcare recently held their very first “Master Chef” style competition for the seven care homes within the group. It was an excellent opportunity for our Chefs to showcase their impressive culinary skills whilst inspiring others. For many of us, home-cooked food is one of lives greatest pleasures and it is of course important to maintain a healthy, balanced diet.
The competition was open to all cooks and chefs within the care home group, they were asked to prepare one meal, together with supporting information, within the home’s resident daily food budget. Entries were judged on presentation, taste, texture, imagination and culinary skills demonstrated. The competition was fierce and the team of judges did deliberate for some time, they took in to account all aspects of the meals provided and concluded Terry, Head Chef of Victoria Care Home to be the over all winner.
This initiative has encouraged our Chefs to share best practice and meal time ideas with one another, promoting a wide range of options for the Residents.
Frank McGuinness, Director of Operations said:
“The standard of the mealtime experience in many of our homes is exceptionally high, I was really excited to launch this initiative that aims to regulate the level across all of our homes. The day was a real success with the Chefs presenting a wide variety of dishes. All entries were of a high standard, however Terry, the Chef at Victoria Care Home had the edge and won the competition due to his exceptional presentation skills.”
